Within the UAE, this species is recorded to occur within the Hajar Mountains (Jongbloed et al. 2003). The Wadi Wurayah National Park is believed to be the northern most point of its distribution in the UAE (Feulner 2016). Globally, the native range of this species spans from Cape Verde through central and eastern Africa to the Arabian Peninsula and India (Board of Trustees, RBG Kew 2019).

This is an annual herb species which is typically found in gravel plains and wadis within the low mountains (Jongbloed et al. 2003, Mahmoud et al. 2018). The plant can grow up to 30 cm and is covered in short, stiff hairs along with sharp tipped leaves (Jongbloed et al. 2003). It produces pale yellow flowers between February and May (Jongbloed et al. 2003).
