This species is restricted to hills and mountain areas within the northeast of the UAE. Despite this, it is considered locally common within its range and is known to occur within at least one protected area. It is therefore assessed as Least Concern.

Within the UAE, this species is known from hills near to Dibba and Masafi (in the northeast of the country) in addition to the Ru'us al-Jibal (Jongbloed et al. 2003, MEW 2010). It has been recorded from elevations above 300 m (Jongbloed et al. 2003). Globally, the native range of this species extends from northern Africa to Turkey, the Arabian Peninsula and Iran (Board of Trustees, RBG Kew 2019).

It is a perennial species which can grow up to 40 cm in height (Jongbloed et al. 2003). The plant has a woody base, basal leaves and produces white or pink flowers between March and August (Jongbloed et al. 2003). It can generally be found growing in amongst rocks within mountain habitats (Jongbloed et al. 2003).
