Within the UAE, this species is widespread throughout the northern Emirates (G. Brown pers. comm. 2019, Jongbloed et al. 2003). The native range of this species spans across Africa and Indo-China (Board of Trustees, RBG Kew 2019).

This annual species can reach up to 20 cm in height (Jongbloed et al. 2003). It has narrow oval leaves and small green-white flowers between February to April, in addition to star-shaped purple fruit (Jongbloed et al. 2003). The plant grows in sand plains between low sand dunes (Jongbloed et al. 2003).
