In the UAE, this species is widespread along both coasts and inland in the northern emirates, although absent from the Hajar Mountains (Jongbloed et al. 2003). It also occurs on offshore islands (Jongbloed et al. 2003, Sakkir et al. 2017). The global range of this species is from Cape Verde, through Africa (Sahara to Tanzania, Angola to southern Africa), the Arabian Peninsula, to India (Board of Trustees, RBG Kew 2019).

This annual herb species is found on compacted sands between low dunes, on gravel plains, and along roadsides (Jongbloed et al. 2003). It is able to tolerate salinity (Jongbloed et al. 2003).
